The Sindh chief secretary on Wednesday suspended Dr Agha Amir, Medical Superintendent (MS) Saudabad Hospital, and directed him to report to the health department.
Reliable sources within the health department confirmed that Dr Amir had removed the registration plate from the hospital's official vehicle and affixed it to his private car. The original number plate had a yellow background, which was illegally altered to green, indicating tampering. His private car was reportedly being used by another person.
The matter came to light on Tuesday when a close friend of the suspended MS was found driving a private vehicle with the official registration plate of the hospital's car, number GS-6751. When the car reached the Bhutto Highway toll plaza, the toll staff asked for the toll fee. The person in the car refused to pay, claiming it was a govt vehicle and identified himself as the MS of Saudabad Hospital.
The toll plaza staff became suspicious and took photos of the vehicle, which they forwarded to the relevant authorities. Upon receiving the reports, the Chief Secretary of Sindh ordered the immediate suspension of Dr Agha Amir.
It is worth mentioning that on December 20, 2024, the Sindh Health Department had transferred Dr Pir Ghulam Nabi Shah Jelani (Grade 20), who was the then-MS of Saudabad Hospital, and appointed Dr Agha Amir (Grade 19) in his place. Dr Jelani ranks 5th on the seniority list of Grade 20 officers, whereas Dr Amir ranked 140th in the Grade 19 seniority list. Despite this, the Government of Sindh appointed Dr Amir as MS in violation of official procedures, allegedly due to his political connections.
