Wendy Williams’ court-appointed lawyers have formally opposed a $250 million lawsuit filed by her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, which seeks to end her court-ordered guardianship.

The legal team, appointed by the New York Guardianship Court, described Hunter’s lawsuit as “detrimental” to Williams’ best interests.

In a letter to a federal judge on July 17, attorneys Allan B. Diamond and Peter J. Strauss stated they represent Williams in her guardianship proceedings, along with co-counsel Sadatu Salami-Oyakhilome. The lawyers emphasized that they—and not Hunter—have the sole authority to represent Williams in legal matters related to the guardianship.

The letter strongly criticized Hunter’s lawsuit, claiming it reflects either poor judgment or a deliberate attempt to mislead the court. It further argued that Williams herself does not support the legal action.

Hunter’s lawsuit, filed last month, names Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, financial institution Wells Fargo, and former Wells Fargo employee Lori Schiller as defendants. Hunter alleged Schiller acted improperly and submitted a doctor’s letter claiming Williams was unable to make medical decisions, which became a basis for the guardianship. He is seeking $250 million in damages and for the guardianship to be lifted.

Williams’ lawyers noted that prior court orders prohibit Hunter’s legal team from contacting Williams or her household, and from disclosing any documents from the guardianship case—an order they believe was violated by the recent filing.

The court has not yet ruled on the matter. Meanwhile, Williams and her family continue efforts to terminate the guardianship arrangement, which was put in place after Wells Fargo raised concerns about possible financial exploitation in 2022.
