Astronomer’s new interim CEO Pete DeJoy is speaking out following the unexpected media attention surrounding a viral Coldplay concert video that led to CEO Andy Byron’s resignation.

In a LinkedIn post on July 21, DeJoy described the situation as “unusual and surreal,” noting that startups like Astronomer rarely face this level of public scrutiny. “While I would never have wished for it to happen like this,” he wrote, “Astronomer is now a household name.” DeJoy emphasized the company's resilience and reiterated its dedication to solving complex data and AI challenges.

Founded nearly a decade ago, Astronomer provides tools for data orchestration. DeJoy highlighted the company’s strong values and the importance of its mission, stating, “We’re here because our customers trust us with their most ambitious data & AI projects. And, most importantly, we’re here because the mission is bigger than any one moment.”

The controversy began after a video taken at Coldplay’s July 15 concert went viral, showing a man and woman embracing on the venue’s jumbotron before quickly ducking out of sight. Online speculation identified the man as former CEO Andy Byron, who resigned shortly afterward. Though the company has not confirmed the identities of those in the video, it acknowledged the public attention in its official statement.

Pete DeJoy concluded his post with a message of appreciation to employees and customers: “To our team: thank you for your resilience. To our community and customers: thank you for your trust. We won’t let you down.”

Meanwhile, Grace Springer, the fan who filmed the video, told This Morning that she never expected the footage to gain so much attention and clarified she hasn’t profited from it. “It’s not monetized,” she said.
