A Critical Role video game is officially in development, bringing the world of Exandria to players in a new narrative experience. The game is being developed by AdHoc Studio, an independent team formed by industry veterans from Telltale Games and Ubisoft, as reported by Variety.
Critical Role, which began as a Dungeons & Dragons series and has expanded into animated projects and live shows, is moving into the gaming industry after years of requests from its audience.
The announcement marks the start of a new chapter for the franchise, with the upcoming game described as a choice-driven narrative set in Exandria.
AdHoc Studio’s CEO Michael Choung said, “We’ve known the Critical Role team for years. When we finally started kicking around ideas, it all just clicked. It made sense in the best way possible, so we’re thrilled we get to team up and cause some trouble together.”
Travis Willingham of Critical Role noted that fans can expect “something unique in the world of Exandria. I think it would have to be something brand-new in terms of storyline.”
While specific plot details remain under wraps, there is an indication the game may explore events between the main Critical Role campaigns to expand the universe further.
Currently, the project is in the early stages of development. While no release window has been confirmed, the team aims to avoid lengthy development cycles typical of larger studios.
