Shopkeeper moves court against police officials

The accused policemen allegedly visited his shop and demanded weekly extortion payments

KARACHI:

A shopkeeper from Lyari, Muhammad Fahad, has filed a petition in the sessions court, seeking the registration of a case against police officials allegedly involved in extortion and harassment. The petition names SSP Complaint Cell, SHO Kalakot and four policemen including, Shaukat, Sajid, Bilal, and Siraj, accused of harassing and demanding extortion.

According to the petitioner, he runs a confectionery and pan shop in Jhat Pat Market, Lyari. The accused policemen allegedly visited his shop and demanded weekly extortion payments, which he refused. On July 13, the officials came again and forcibly took him to Chakiwara police station, and also took away over Rs0.1 million from his shop.

He further stated that after refusing to pay extortion, the police registered a false case of gutka possession against him. Although he secured bail and was released from jail, the same officials continued harassment and demanding extortion.
