Police officer killed as bus hits motorbike

DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A road accident occurred near Chowk Chorhatta on Indus Highway, Taunsa Road, where a bus collided with a patrolling motorcycle of the Dolphin Force, resulting in the death of one officer and serious injury to another on Saturday.

The coach struck the Dolphin Force officers while they were on routine patrol. Officer Rais Khan Raja died on the spot due to the severity of the impact, while his colleague Muhammad Ijaz sustained critical injuries.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene immediately and shifted both officers to the Trauma Centre of Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital.

Upon receiving the report, District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ali rushed to the scene and later visited the hospital to inquire after the injured officer.

He directed the police station concerned to take swift legal action. DPO Syed Ali also instructed hospital staff to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured officer.

Speaking to the media, DPO Syed Ali said that the coach driver was driving recklessly and at high speed, leading to the fatal accident.

He confirmed that Rais Khan, who was performing his duty at the time, was martyred, while Ijaz Ahmed remains under treatment for serious injuries.

Police have arrested the coach driver and registered a case against him for negligence and reckless driving. Further legal proceedings are underway.

DPO Syed Ali announced that the martyred officer Rais Khan would be laid to rest with full police honours.
