Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Mortal Kombat II, confirming the arrival of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage ahead of the film’s release on October 24.

The sequel, directed by Simon McQuoid, follows 2021’s Mortal Kombat and will continue the story of Earthrealm’s fighters as they prepare for the critical Mortal Kombat tournament.

The trailer reveals that if Earth’s champions fail, Outworld ruler Shao Kahn, played by Martyn Ford, will claim control over Earth.

Karl Urban, known for his role in The Boys, joins returning cast members Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Adeline Rudolph has been added to the cast as Kitana.

The trailer teases intense combat sequences and a deepening storyline, including the continued tension between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon stated that Sanada’s Scorpion “plays a different role” this time, not directly joining Earthrealm’s fighters but remaining central to the plot.

Boon also discussed Urban’s approach to Johnny Cage, describing it as a “fresh” take on the character while maintaining elements fans expect.

He noted that Urban’s portrayal explores Cage as a “washed-up Hollywood guy” thrown into the brutal world of Mortal Kombat, aligning with the franchise’s mix of action and character-driven storytelling.

Based on the long-running video game series, Mortal Kombat II aims to deliver the franchise’s signature blend of martial arts action and fantasy elements when it arrives in cinemas this October 24.
