A motorcyclist was killed on Friday morning after being run over by a speeding truck in the Saudabad area of Karachi, prompting a violent reaction from bystanders who assaulted the driver and set the vehicle on fire, police said.
The incident occurred near Malir’s RCD Ground when a truck carrying cement bags struck 59-year-old Baqar Saeed, a local milk delivery worker, killing him on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was travelling at high speed from Kala Board and the driver appeared to be operating the vehicle recklessly. Some locals claimed he was under the influence of drugs.
The driver attempted to flee but was caught and beaten by residents before being handed over to police. The truck was later set ablaze by angry bystanders.
Saeed’s motorcycle was destroyed in the collision. The injured driver, identified as Waris, was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.

According to officials, the motorcyclist, identified as Tanveer, died at the scene. His body was transferred to a nearby hospital for legal formalities.
The driver of the water tanker fled immediately after the accident. Police confirmed an investigation is underway to locate the suspect.
The accident adds to a growing list of deadly road mishaps in Karachi. Authorities say the city has seen a sharp rise in traffic fatalities this year.
