'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc' praised for animation and emotion in strong debut in Japan

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns has premiered in Japan, earning praise for its animation quality, emotional storytelling, and intense fight sequences.

The film, which adapts the final chapters of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga, has been described by viewers as a “rollercoaster of emotions,” with some admitting to tears during key scenes and character backstories.

The movie showcases major battles, including Shinobu Kocho versus Doma and Zenitsu Agatsuma versus Kaigaku, before focusing on the confrontation between Tanjiro, Giyu, and Akaza, one of the Upper Rank Three demons.

Early reactions indicate that the film’s animation quality surpasses previous work by Ufotable, with some describing it as the studio’s best production to date.

Viewers have also highlighted the soundtrack, calling it “mind blowing.” The theme song, “A World Where the Sun Never Rises,” is performed by Aimer, while LiSA contributes with “Shine in the Cruel Night.”

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1 is the first in a planned trilogy adapting the manga’s finale.

The movie is rated PG-12 in Japan, with an R-rating expected for the United States, similar to the previous Mugen Train film.

The film is currently screening in Japan, with a North American release set for 12 September 2025 and other global rollouts beginning in August.
