RAWALPINDI:

The Forest Department has officially ended the fire prevention season in government forests due to continuous monsoon rains and will begin its seasonal tree plantation campaign on July 16.

The fire season, which began on April 15, lasted for three months.

Forest officers stated that no major fire incidents were reported this year thanks to foolproof arrangements and strict security.

With the start of heavy monsoon rains, the forests have turned lush, clearing out dry shrubs, leaves, and trees, thereby eliminating the risk of fire.

Emergency duties of additional officers and staff deployed in forests during fire season have also concluded.

However, regular patrols and monitoring will continue. Field staff have been equipped with bicycles, motorcycles, and firearms. Closed-circuit cameras will remain operational at forest entry and exit points.

Bans on lighting fires for picnics or recreation within government forests will stay in place.

The use of matches, axes, lighters, knives, or saws inside forest areas is also prohibited.
