Drug trafficking suspect secures bail
A special Anti-Narcotics Court on Tuesday granted bail to an alleged trafficker, who was arrested in connection with a case involving the attempted smuggling of 10.45 kilograms of heroin through an international parcel at Islamabad International Cargo, ordering his immediate release.
Advocate Shahzaib Khan, representing the accused, argued that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Nadeem Ali from the Islamabad Cargo Office, where he worked as a clearing agent. The parcel in question was not his property, nor was he the sender.
The sender's complete details were clearly listed on the parcel. Nadeem's role was limited to booking the parcel, which is a routine duty of such employees.
The court observed that a booking clerk could not be held responsible for the contents of a parcel and concluded that there was no legal basis for his continued detention.
Granting bail, Judge Akmal Khan ordered his release upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs500,000.
