Case against Salman Farooqui dropped in viral Karachi assault incident
Karachi police have closed the case against Salman Farooqui, who had been nominated in an assault case involving a young man in the Ittehad Commercial area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The incident had sparked widespread outrage after video footage of the altercation went viral on social media last month.
During a recent hearing at the South Judicial Magistrate’s Court, police informed the court that the case had officially been withdrawn. The Gizri Police submitted a “C-Class” report, indicating that the matter is no longer prosecutable.
According to the report, the complainant, Dheeraj alias Dhanraj, stated in a written affidavit that he does not wish to pursue legal action and that neither he nor his sister faced any misconduct by the accused. The affidavit led to the dropping of all charges, including criminal intimidation and threats to kill.
The court accepted the police report into the record and adjourned the proceedings.

The viral video showed Farooqui physically attacking the rider in front of the victim’s sisters, despite their repeated pleas for him to stop.
The footage triggered significant backlash online and led to the registration of a case against Farooqui and co-accused Owais Hashmi at Gizri Police Station. With the complainant retracting his statement and the charges dropped, authorities have now closed the case.
