Two rescuers die in warehouse collapse

A rescue official injured in Thursday's warehouse collapse in Shafiqabad succumbed to his injuries on Friday, raising the death toll to two.

Rescue 1122 firefighters were inspecting the building after extinguishing a fire when the structure collapsed.

Emergency Medical Technician Muhammad Shoaib, 28, died from injuries suffered when the roof of the plastic warehouse collapsed on Band Road in Shafiqabad. The victim was a resident of Begumpura.

He was laid to rest with full honours.

Fire Rescuer Nazim Hussain, 38, from Shahdara had been killed instantly, while five other rescuers had been injured.

Following the funeral prayers, the provincial emergency services secretary presented the rescue uniform and national flag to the martyr Shoaib's family with a salute. Muhammad Shoaib was buried in his ancestral area of Jiya Musa, Shahdara.

The funeral prayers for the other martyred rescuer, Nazim Hussain, will be offered after the arrival of his relatives from abroad.
