Maulana Khan Zeb attacked near Khar Tehsil; assault also leaves three others injured

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Maulana Khan Zeb was gunned down along with his police guard near Shandai Mor, steps away from the headquarters of Khar Tehsil, Bajaur tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The deadly assault also left three others injured.

According to sources, Maulana Khan Zeb, who also served as the central secretary for religious affairs in ANP, was actively campaigning for a peace march scheduled for July 13 in Bajaur when unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle. The ANP leader and police constable Sherzada got injured and succumbed to their injuries.

The injured—identified as Dr Tariq, Shah Sawar, and Usman — were shifted to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Following the incident, ANP workers and local residents staged a protest while carrying the coffin of the slain leader near Khar Bazaar.

The funeral prayers for Maulana Khan Zeb will be offered today in his native village, Nawagai.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the tragic firing incident in the merged district Bajaur that claimed the lives of Awami National Party (ANP) stalwart Maulana Khan Zeb and the police cop.

The governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

"We stand in solidarity with the grieving families during this painful time," Governor Kundi said.

He offered prayers for the departed souls, seeking forgiveness for the deceased and patience for the families to bear the immense loss. "I share my deepest condolences with the ANP leadership, party workers, and the mourning families affected by this heartbreaking incident," he added. (with more input from APP)
