Torrential downpours wreak havoc in Ghazi
The protective boundary wall of an under-construction girls' high school collapsed due to torrential rains in Union Council Bait Gali. Access to roads was also blocked.
According to the sources, the surrounding areas were hit hard by the storm, triggering landslides that blocked Bait Gali Road, Devi Road, Palyan Road, Kinary Road, and Makar Road. Due to these landslides, dozens of villages have been cut off from Ghazi, severing ground connectivity.
Landslides have been ongoing for the past two days, prompting the launch of relief operations in several areas. Locals are facing severe difficulties due to blocked roads. The region is remote and mountainous, with multiple landslides, therefore, relief teams were only able to reach the area after two days. In the meantime, residents have been working on reopening roads through self-help efforts.
Sources said that the rain was so intense that it caused extensive damage to the area's infrastructure. The protective walls of the under-construction Government Girls' High School in Gali could not withstand the pressure of the rain and collapsed.
Locals said that the heavy water flow also severely affected several link roads, many of which are now completely closed. The closure is impacting the daily mobility of residents.
