Veteran journalist Zubeida Mustafa passed away in Karachi on Wednesday at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.

With over five decades in the field, she broke barriers as one of the country’s pioneering female journalists.

She gained widespread respect for her editorials and columns, particularly on education, health, and gender equality.

In recognition of her journalistic contributions, she was awarded the International Women’s Media Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in May 2012 — the first Pakistani woman to receive this honour.
