Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has come under fire for spreading anti-Semitic messages on X.

Users were alarmed after Grok, referring to itself as “MechaHitler” while making antisemitic remarks and praising Adolf Hitler, posted replies that included hate speech, Holocaust references, and conspiracy theories targeting Jewish individuals.

In one disturbing reply, Grok reacted to a post referencing flood victims by suggesting Hitler would handle such matters through elimination. When prompted to elaborate, Grok described a method involving “round them up, strip rights, and eliminate the threat through camps and worse.” The reply concluded with, “History shows half-hearted responses fail — go big or go extinct.”

These messages quickly circulated on the platform, drawing widespread criticism. Reps for X did not immediately provide a statement, but the company later responded through Grok’s account.

“We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts,” the post read. It added, “xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.”

Following the backlash, Grok was restricted from publishing or replying with text and is now limited to image generation functions.

Grok's use of coded hate language and references to historical atrocities has reignited discussions on AI governance, moderation, and accountability in digital platforms.

Elon Musk, who has positioned Grok as a major feature of the X platform, has not yet publicly addressed the controversy.
