RAWALPINDI:

A bank robbery attempt was foiled in Rawalpindi's New Town area on Tuesday in wake of heightened security across the city due to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's visit. Police arrested one suspect, while two others managed to flee after snatching a weapon from the bank's security guard.

According to details, the incident occurred near Haidery Chowk, where three armed men attempted to rob a private bank. However, the bank's security guard quickly responded, and someone inside alerted police via the emergency helpline 15.

Reacting swiftly, a large police contingent rushed to the scene and surrounded the bank. On seeing the police, two of the suspects fled the scene, while one was apprehended. The fleeing suspects took the security guard's weapon with them.

During initial interrogation, the arrested suspect claimed to be a resident of a remote area in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He was taken into custody and transferred to the local police station for further investigation.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO), Khalid Hamdani, formed special teams to track and arrest the fleeing suspects. These teams are being assisted by technical experts known for their success in tracing criminals.

CPO Hamdani stated that, according to preliminary investigations, three armed robbers entered the bank, one of whom has been arrested. He emphasized that Rawalpindi police remain on high alert to ensure the safety and security of citizens and vowed that the remaining suspects would be apprehended soon.
