PESHAWER:

Peshawar continues to remain a volatile and dangerous place for the transgender community as another member was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Tehkal area on Tuesday.

According to police and local sources, the victim, identified as Asad alias Asady, was found dead in her flat located in a local plaza. Police said she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and skull, which proved fatal.

Her body was shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem and medico-legal formalities. A police official at the scene told reporters that further details would be shared once initial findings from the autopsy and forensic analysis are available.

Law enforcement officials have collected evidence from the scene and have launched an investigation, exploring various angles to ascertain the motive and identify those responsible.

The incident comes just a week after another transgender person, known as Titli, was murdered in Peshawar’s Gulbahar area. Police said that case has now been solved.

According to reports, Titli, whose real name was Farman, was killed on July 1. The motive behind the killing, according to police, stemmed from a dispute over a personal relationship.

Under the supervision of Faqirabad Division SP Muhammad Arshad Khan, a team comprising Gulbahar DSP Circle Akhtar Nasir Khan and SHO Rafiq Khan apprehended two suspects near the Rescue Office on Service Road.

The suspects — Salman, son of Afzal, a resident of Qadirabad Gulbahar, and Niaz Muhammad, son of Jan Muhammad, of Sardar Ahmad Jan Colony, Faqirabad — confessed to the murder during preliminary interrogation.

Police said the suspects admitted to killing Farman after he allegedly ended a personal friendship with one of them. A motorcycle used in the crime was also recovered. Police said further investigations are underway.
