LAHORE:

A government employee died and his brother and two other men were injured in Shahdara on Monday after a car driven by a 14-year-old unlicensed driver recklessly ploughed through pedestrians.

Initial reports indicated that the underage driver was speeding through the area and lost control over the vehicle, striking pedestrians.

The deceased was identified as Amin, a government employee. His brother Malik Fareed and another man, Imran, were among the injured, all of whom were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initial investigations revealed that the boy had allegedly taken the car without permission from his landlord, Khurram, a manager in a pharmaceutical company.

A report of theft of the vehicle had been made to the police emergency helpline 15 in an apparent attempt to cover up the incident.

Shahdara Town police arrested the driver at the spot and registered a case under sections related to unintentional homicide and serious violations of traffic laws on the complaint of Amin's brother Malik Naveed.

The Lahore city SP confirmed that the car owner, Khurram, was being included in the investigation.
