Clifton plots scam lands KMC ex-bosses in the soup
A provincial anti-corruption court has summoned two former administrators of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, two former municipal commissioners, and several senior officials to appear on July 15 in a major case involving the illegal allotment of government plots worth billions of rupees and large-scale corruption.
The court was hearing a case concerning the illegal allotment of valuable amenity plots and abuse of power. Notices have been issued to former administrators Muhammad Hussain Syed and Rauf Akhtar Farooqi; former municipal commissioners Samiuddin Siddiqui and Matant Ali Khan, former director land management Najamuz Zaman, former director auctions Abdul Ghani, Additional Director KDA Khalid Zafar Hashmi, former Assistant Director KDA Syed Jameel Ahmed, former Assistant Director KDA Abdul Rasheed, Younus Qidwai, Omni Group Director Abdul Ghani Majeed, and Agha Sher Shah. The court has directed all accused to be present on the given date.
According to the prosecution, the reference was previously under trial at the NAB court. In 2024, the NAB chairman transferred the case to the provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment.
After a detailed inquiry by the department's committee, the case was formally submitted to the court.
The accused are alleged to have illegally allotted two amenity plots in Clifton and are accused of abusing their authority for personal gain and engaging in corruption.
