Brad Pitt confirmed that he and Tom Cruise were once attached to star in an earlier version of Ford v Ferrari.

In an interview with The National, Pitt said the two were considered for the roles of British driver Ken Miles and American automotive designer Carroll Shelby, respectively.

However, Cruise opted out after learning that Shelby’s character had limited driving scenes.

“When Tom realized that Carroll Shelby would not be driving much in the movie, it didn’t come through,” Pitt said.

The 2019 film Ford v Ferrari, later directed by James Mangold and starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, was released to critical and commercial success. Pitt described the film as “a great movie” and did not express any regrets about not participating.

Asked about future collaborations with Cruise, Pitt indicated openness but noted he would prefer to avoid Cruise’s well-known stunt work.

Pitt and Cruise previously worked together in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire.

Pitt also mentioned their past go-kart racing experiences during the interview, recalling that Cruise usually won. “He got me in the end,” Pitt said.

While the on-screen pairing in Ford v Ferrari never happened, Pitt’s comments have renewed interest in the possibility of future projects involving the two actors.
