A new live-action Street Fighter film is in development, marking the franchise’s return to cinema following the 1994 adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Juliá.
The upcoming film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who has taken over from Danny and Michael Philippou, with a release planned for 2026 through Legendary and Sony. The project is co-developed and co-produced with Capcom, the developer of the original video game series.
While the film’s plot remains under wraps, casting announcements have steadily emerged. David Dastmalchian will portray the series’ iconic villain M. Bison, while Orville Peck will appear as Vega. Callina Liang has been cast as Chun-Li, and Andrew Schulz will play Dan Hibiki.
These additions join an ensemble that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog.
Street Fighter was launched in 1987 and has since become one of the most recognisable fighting game franchises globally, selling over 55 million units.
The games typically focus on a worldwide fighting tournament organised by M. Bison, leader of the criminal group Shadaloo, with a diverse lineup of martial artists competing in intense one-on-one battles.
The live-action adaptation aims to bring this dynamic energy to the screen while introducing new audiences to the characters and storylines.
