Netflix’s highly anticipated sequel The Old Guard 2 premiered on Wednesday, featuring Charlize Theron reprising her role as Andy, joined by returning cast members KiKi Layne and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Uma Thurman also joined the ensemble as Discord, a mysterious antagonist said to be among the first immortals.

The film continues the saga of immortal warriors, this time with a greater emphasis on justice and protection.

However, a key shift occurs when Andy loses her immortality, only to regain it through Booker’s sacrifice. Matthias Schoenaerts’ character transfers his eternal gift to Andy in a plot twist that sets up an unresolved ending.

Despite the return of beloved characters and the introduction of new faces, early feedback has been overwhelmingly critical.

Many viewers voiced their frustration on social media platforms. One user wrote, “The Old Guard 2’s real superpower is testing my patience.” Another added, “No way I waited for The Old Guard 2 for 5 years just for it to end like that with no confirmation for a 3rd movie.”

Critics have cited issues with the film’s pacing, a lack of emotional depth, and its unresolved narrative as key letdowns.

With no confirmation on whether a third instalment is underway, the cliffhanger ending has only added to viewers’ dissatisfaction.
