MNA Qamarul Islam Raja has opposed any move to bring former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan back into the PML-N fold and warned of protest to the party leadership.
Raja had defeated Nisar in his home constituency after the latter parted ways with the party following a 34-year association. However, Nisar returned to the limelight last week when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited him after a seven-year gap and held a meeting.
In the meeting, where Nisar's son, Taimur Ali Khan, was also present, the PM enquired about Nisar's health, according to an official statement. They also discussed various political matters as well as ongoing domestic issues.
Since his loss in the general elections in 2018, Nisar had been living a secluded life, away from the media glare. However, after the meeting with PM Shehbaz, rumours were rife that he might re-join the PML-N.
In an interview with a private news channel, Raja said he opposed Nisar's return, warning that if his party had any dealings with Nisar, he would protest to the party leadership. "I will oppose him [Nisar] and complain to the party," he said.
Raja said that during the elections, his family, which was campaigning for him, was constantly threatened, adding that he himself had received messages not to contest against Nisar.
