Cop, estate agent shot dead as city struggles to curb crime
A young man lost his life during a motorcycle snatching attempt in Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth on Wednesday. The victim, hailing from Kohat, was employed at an estate agency in Gulzar-e-Hijri. He was the third of five siblings and was laid to rest in the Janjal Goth cemetery. However, a case has been registered against unknown armed suspects.
Meanwhile, unidentified armed suspects opened fire and killed 26-year-old police constable Umair Ali in Korangi. Umair was a resident of the Quaidabad Police Lines and had joined the Special Protection Unit (SPU) in 2024 as an auto mechanic. He was still serving in the SPU at the time of his death.
Umair Ali was shot once, and the bullet proved fatal. The police investigation is underway, exploring various angles, including potential motives and suspects, police said.
Eyewitnesses described the scene, recounting how the victim, bleeding from a gunshot wound, came towards a nearby mosque and collapsed at a house door. Residents further revealed that this is the third incident in the area. Previously, the muazzin of a mosque and a 10-year-old girl were also killed by armed muggers.
The community feels increasingly vulnerable, lambasting the police for prioritising the capture of minor street offenders over addressing serious crimes.
