Sean "Diddy" Combs has been denied bail following his partial acquittal by a New York jury.
The court dismissed charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but found him guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution. Combs will remain in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn while awaiting sentencing.
During the verdict reading, Combs knelt and buried his face in his hands before making a prayer gesture to the jury and his family. He appeared emotional as he mouthed, “I’m gonna be home soon,” prompting cheers from family and supporters in the courtroom.
Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo emphasized that the acquittals spared Combs from a possible life sentence and urged the judge to release him immediately. Despite this, the judge upheld his detention, citing the severity of the prostitution convictions and Combs’ history.
Prosecutors have recommended a prison term between 51–63 months for the convicted counts, and have asked that Combs remain in custody until sentencing. Combs, who has been detained since his September 2024 arrest, pled not guilty to all charges.
Supporters gathered outside the courthouse, some chanting "Free Diddy," but the mood dimmed after bail was denied. Inside, defense lawyers wiped away tears, and Combs’ family stood by as the judge confirmed his continued detention ahead of a sentencing date to be scheduled in the coming months.
This verdict concludes a highly publicized trial that exposed shocking details of Combs' personal life and the lives of alleged victims while avoiding the most serious punishments. With his release delayed, attention now turns to the impending sentencing and potential appeals process.
