Why did Sydney Sweeney attend Jeff Bezos’ wedding?

Actress Sydney Sweeney was among the many celebrities spotted at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s extravagant $50 million wedding in Venice, Italy.

While some questioned her connection to the billionaire couple, sources tell Page Six her presence was tied to business, not personal ties.

Sweeney, best known for roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and Anyone But You, is set to star in and executive produce the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Split Fiction. The movie is a video game adaptation directed by Jon M. Chu (Wicked) and penned by the writers of Deadpool & Wolverine. With Bezos’ company backing the film, insiders say Sweeney attended the wedding as a gesture of respect to the studio head.

“She is not friends with either one of them,” a source told Page Six, “but came to pay respects to the ‘boss,’ just like in the old days of Hollywood.”

During the weekend festivities, Sweeney was seen walking through Venice with actor Orlando Bloom and reportedly danced with Tom Brady during the reception. Her attendance added to the star-studded guest list, which included Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, and Jerry Seinfeld.

Sweeney previously worked with Amazon on the 2021 Prime Video film The Voyeurs and continues to build her presence in both acting and production. Split Fiction, which follows two authors trapped in their fictional worlds, is currently in development and seeking a co-star for Sweeney.
