Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey trailer leaks online after exclusive theatrical release
The first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey was recently released, but with a notable twist.
The teaser was initially available exclusively in theaters for those attending screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth in the U.S. Universal Pictures, which is distributing the film, did not confirm whether it would appear before other upcoming blockbuster films. This decision to give the trailer a theatrical-only debut follows Nolan’s longstanding commitment to supporting movie theaters. The director's previous film Oppenheimer also benefited from a similar exclusivity window, which contributed to its box-office success.
However, following its theatrical release, a low-quality version of the teaser quickly found its way online, shared by an anonymous user on X. The leaked footage, which lasts just over a minute, reveals glimpses of the film’s cast and teases the highly anticipated mythological action adventure.
The teaser offers a brief look at Tom Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. In the trailer, Telemachus and Jon Bernthal’s character discuss the disappearance of Odysseus after the Trojan War. In one gripping exchange, Bernthal’s character reflects on the uncertainty surrounding Odysseus’s fate, while Telemachus expresses his determination to uncover what happened to his father. At the end of the trailer, we see Odysseus stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean, heightening the mystery and tension.
The Odyssey is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows the journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he makes his way back home after the Trojan War, facing numerous dangers along the way. The star-studded cast includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. Expected to be an R-rated, visually stunning epic, The Odyssey promises a gripping tale of adventure, fate, and the hero’s journey when it hits theaters on July 17, 2026.
With a massive $250 million budget, this film is shaping up to be one of Nolan’s most ambitious projects yet, and fans are eagerly awaiting its theatrical release.
