Heidi Klum returns to Project Runway as season 21 trailer ignites runway excitement
Fashion fans are in for a treat: Project Runway is making a sizzling comeback this summer, and Heidi Klum is reclaiming her role as host in season 21. The exclusive trailer dropped ahead of the two-episode premiere on July 31 which kicks off with Klum’s triumphant return, opening with the caption, “Look who’s back!” before she emerges in a dramatic strapless black gown on stage alongside mentor Christian Siriano.
The season introduces a refreshed judging line-up, including Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia and celebrity stylist Law Roach. In the trailer, Siriano, a former season 4 winner, joins Klum to welcome contestants: “Now that’s an entrance,” he declares.
Season 21 ups the ante with intense design challenges, occasional tears, and sharp critiques. One contestant even earns a playful rebuke when Siriano labels a creation ‘a grandma skirt.’ And tensions flare when Law Roach famously says, “I hated it,” prompting Klum to quip, “Hate is such a big word” to which he dryly responds, “It’s short. Only four letters.”
Celebrity guest judges elevate the heat with appearances by Sofia Vergara, Nikki Glaser, Tyra Banks, Michael Kors, Zac Posen, and Abbott Elementary stars Chris Perfetti and Lisa Ann Walter. Expect spectacular moments including pyrotechnics on the catwalk and a fresh set of rules designed to push designers beyond boundaries.
Klum, who hosted Project Runway for 16 seasons before leaving in 2018, recently shared with PEOPLE that stepping back into fashion competition feels easy, “I can do it with my eyes closed … I love fashion so much.”
Project Runway season 21 launches with a two-episode premiere at ET on Freeform on July 31, and streams shortly after on Hulu and Disney+.
