Pete Davidson delivered a mix of comedy and candid reflection during his appearance at the North to Shore Festival at the Prudential Center in Newark. The 31-year-old comedian surprised the audience by discussing the failing health of his maternal grandfather, revealing a painful family history.
“He got the lung cancer and I'm not that close with him. I'm close with my dad's dad. I don't like my mom's dad,” Davidson said, according to Daily Mail. “He used to beat the sh-t out of me and I don't like him very much.”
Describing his grandfather as “old school” and “very Irish,” Davidson explained his conflicted feelings about the man’s condition. “I'm low-key, thrilled. I'm like, die slow motherf--ker,” he said, adding that he was trying to be there for his mother while processing the situation.
Davidson told the crowd that he is not close with his grandfather and recalled painful memories from childhood. He expressed a desire to support his mother during this time and that has been trying to focus on positive memories.
Offstage, Davidson has found support in his relationship with model Elsie Hewitt. The couple recently appeared at the Blossom Ball and have been splitting time between New York residences.
Davidson also shared an update on his tattoo removal process, which he began as part of a broader mental and physical reset.
