Cops indicted in custodial killing case

A special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday formally chargesheeted 25 police officers and personnel in connection with the alleged staged police encounter that resulted in the killing of an already-detained civilian and his associate in the jurisdiction of Rawat Police Station.
Rawalpindi Operations SSP Kashif Zulfiqar, Saddar SP Nabeel Khokhar, and Rawat SHO Zahid Zahoor were also chargesheeted.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah distributed case documents to all accused and issued notices summoning them in person on July 11 for indictment. Among those charged is a female Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Zainab Ayub, who has also been listed as an accused.
The case was filed by Ghazala Waheedi, the widow of the deceased, who claims that her husband Waheed alias Waheedi was arrested from their home and held in police custody for several days before being brutally killed in a staged encounter.
