Woman accused of poisoning kids to death

Claims she had threatened to hurt them during an argument

RAWALPINDI:

A tragic case in Rawalpindi's Banni Police Station area, Mohalla Raja Sultan, has taken a new turn as the father of three children, all of whom died under mysterious circumstances after reportedly ingesting a toxic substance, has accused his wife of deliberately killing them. A case has been registered by the police.

According to officials, the children's father, Salim Masih, filed a report at Banni Police Station, stating that he works as a sanitary worker at AFIC Hospital and lives with his extended family in a three-storey house. He was married to Zunaira Bibi six years ago. They had three children, four-year-old daughter Mansa, two-and-a-half-year-old son Noel and eight-month-old daughter Marisha.

Salim stated that on Friday, his wife took the children to visit her aunt in Gujranwala and returned on Sunday and that he did not approve of this visit. On Monday, an argument took place between the couple, during which he claims his wife said, I might do something to the children.

The next morning, he left for work around 7am. At approximately 2.30pm, a neighbour called him and told him that his children were unconscious and being rushed to hospital. When he reached Holy Family Hospital, all three children were already declared dead in the emergency ward. He was also informed that his wife was undergoing treatment there.

Salim expressed grave suspicion that his wife, Zunaira Bibi, may have poisoned or otherwise killed the children. He added that his life had been destroyed. An initial examination of the children's bodies revealed no external injuries. However, when a female constable examined Zunaira, scratch marks were found on her wrists.

Police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation. It's worth noting that Zunaira had initially claimed that she gave the children milk with breakfast, which she also consumed herself, after which the situation unfolded.

According to police officials, the wife is currently under medical care and has been placed in protective custody. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the children and results are pending. The investigation will proceed on merit based on forensic evidence and autopsy reports.
