Monsoon preps criticised
The members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) have criticised the city and provincial governments for their failure to take adequate precautionary measures ahead of the expected monsoon rains.
The lawmakers warned that the increasing likelihood of heavy rainfall, coupled with administrative negligence, could once again worsen the city's problems. They mentioned that despite repeated warnings and identification of issues, both local and provincial authorities have limited their action to mere lip service, particularly regarding the cleaning of roads and drains.
They pointed out that piles of garbage along streets, alleyways, and intersections have been left unattended for a long time.
During rainfall, these could clog pathways, cause traffic gridlocks, and severely increase public hardships. They further added that encroachments on stormwater drains and giant hoardings mounted on buildings pose serious safety risks and could potentially lead to major accidents.
