Punjab establishes 10 new WASAs
The Punjab government has established 10 new Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) in major cities across the province to enhance access to clean drinking water and efficient sewage systems.
With these additions, the total number of WASAs in Punjab has increased to 15.
The new WASAs have been set up in Jhelum, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rahim Yar Khan.
A notification issued by the Secretary of Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering confirmed the move, which has been approved by the governor of Punjab.
Each WASA agency will have a governing body consisting of a chairperson nominated by the chief minister, along with eleven members.
These include representatives from the Housing, Planning, and Finance departments; two MPAs nominated by the chief minister; the local deputy commissioner; one officer from the respective WASA; three technical experts; and one female member.
The managing director of each WASA will serve as secretary to the governing body. Previously, WASAs operated only in five major divisional headquartersLahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan.
