PHC grills police over judge insult
The Peshawar High Court has sought a response from the Inspector General of Police in a contempt of court petition filed against the Lakki Marwat Police for sharing derogatory content against a civil judge on its official social media account.
Justice Syed Arshad Ali, who presided over the single-member bench, expressed concern during the hearing, remarking, "It is not appropriate for such content to be shared from an official police account."
The hearing took place on Monday, with DPO Bannu and Additional Advocate General Naveed Bashir appearing before the court. The Additional Advocate General informed the court that a written reply had already been submitted on behalf of the DPO.
Justice Arshad Ali questioned the use of social media by the police, asking, "How are you managing official social media pages and allowing such posts to be shared?"
The DPO Lakki Marwat informed the court that the post had indeed been shared from the official police page and that the responsible officer had since been suspended.
Justice Arshad Ali noted that this was not an isolated incident, adding, "We have issued a notice to the government regarding such accounts and have demanded an explanation regarding official social media usage."
