SWABI:

A major milestone in pediatric healthcare was marked with the inauguration of the Changing Diabetes in Children (CDiC) Center at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Chota Lahor-MTI, Swabi.

The center was formally inaugurated by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Industries and Commerce, Abdul Karim Khan, alongside Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, MTI Swabi, and representatives from Novo Nordisk and the Health Promotion Foundation.

Prior to the inauguration, officials from Novo Nordisk and the Health Promotion Foundation briefed attendees on the growing burden of Type 1 diabetes among Pakistani children. According to their data, an estimated 80,000 children in Pakistan are living with Type 1 diabetes—yet only 38 per cent have access to specialized care. Experts believe the actual number could be significantly higher.

The newly established CDiC Center will offer free consultations, insulin, glucometers, and essential medicines to children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. "So far, 62 children have been registered and are receiving care," officials said. "This facility will serve patients under the age of 25 from Swabi and neighboring districts including Buner, Attock, and Mansehra."
