Raising standards: G-B to ask UNICEF to help train teachers, management
Work was in progress to constitute an independent text book board and examination board for the area.

Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) education department will seek help from UNICEF in training teachers and management staff, officials said on Sunday.
“The outcome of this training will be made part of the G-B Education Policy,” Secretary Education Syed Hadi told members of the G-B Teachers Association. Rs800 million are being allocated for the trainings of teachers, lecturers and professors in national and foreign institutions, he said.
The official said that work was in progress to constitute an independent text book board and examination board for G-B.
The secretary said that colleges in G-B are facing shortage of lecturers but said the deficiency will be overcome in the next two years. “In this connection about 35 lecturer posts will soon be filled,” he said, adding that the issue of promotions for teachers and professors is being addressed on a priority basis.
“We are separating teaching from management in education system for better delivery of education in institutions,” he added.
Hadi also informed the teachers’ association about the steps that the government is taking steps to curb unfair means employed during examinations.
Earlier representatives of G-B teachers association informed the secretary about problems the teaching fraternity is facing in the region.
