Karachi weather: Cloudy skies, light drizzle forecast to persist

Sea breeze has also resumed, with wind speeds recorded between 20 to 30 km/h

Partly cloudy weather is expected in Karachi over the next three days, with drizzle likely during the morning and night hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Low-level clouds drifting in from the sea have led to a partly cloudy sky over the city and a drop in temperature.

Drizzle has already been reported in several areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sohrab Goth, Scheme 33, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, University Road, Stadium Road, and PECHS.

Sea breeze has also resumed, with wind speeds recorded between 20 to 30 km/h.

Last night, Garden, Nazimabad, Karimabad, and Sohrab Goth also witnessed drizzle.

The Met Office said maximum daytime temperatures in Karachi are likely to range between 33°C and 35°C over the coming days.

Meanwhile, light rainfall is forecast for Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, and Tando Allahyar.

Most other districts in Sindh will continue to experience hot to very hot and dry weather conditions.

Meanwhile, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a weather system has entered the country, and from today until June 23, the provincial capital, Lahore, and other parts of Punjab are likely to experience dust storms, strong winds, and rain.

The system is expected to bring relief by reducing the intensity of the heat.

In Lahore, the minimum temperature today is forecast to be 31°C, with the maximum temperature reaching 38°C. Dusty winds are expected, though rainfall chances remain low.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesperson has confirmed that pre-monsoon showers will begin from this evening, lasting until June 23.

Areas likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujarat, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.

Southern Punjab regions such as Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar are expected to receive rain between June 21 and June 23.

DG PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, mentioned that, following the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, district authorities have been put on high alert.

With these anticipated rains, temperatures and heatwave conditions are expected to moderate. Alerts have been issued to relevant departments, including health, irrigation, local government, and livestock.

The PDMA has urged the public to take necessary precautions during adverse weather, including staying indoors during storms and avoiding unnecessary travel.

Citizens should also seek shelter during lightning storms. In case of an emergency, people are encouraged to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
