PM greenlights headhunting panel for HEC chief

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the process for appointing a new chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
A Search Committee has been constituted for the purpose, led by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
Other members include Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, Arif Saeed, Salman Akhtar, Jehanzeb Khan, Dr Anjum Halai, Dr Muhammad Naseem Qaisrani, and Secretary Ministry of Education and Professional Training.
The formation of the Search Committee has diminished the prospects of the current Chairman, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, getting a one-year extension in his tenure.
Dr Mukhtar has already completed two terms and is currently serving his third term, which was granted for one year. The Search Committee will determine the procedure for the appointment, after which advertisements will be issued
