In an unexpected change of plans, Catherine, Princess of Wales, cancelled her appearance at Royal Ascot today, June 18, only moments before the event began. The royal had been scheduled to ride in the second carriage of the royal procession alongside her husband, Prince William, marking what would have been one of her few public appearances since beginning cancer treatment earlier this year.

Royal Ascot officials initially confirmed her attendance in a public carriage list released at noon, generating significant excitement among racegoers. However, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Kensington Palace issued a statement confirming that the princess would no longer attend. A revised list was swiftly released, surprising both the public and event organisers - especially since printed programmes had already included her name.

While no specific reason was given for the cancellation, sources indicate that the decision was related to her ongoing recovery and efforts to carefully manage her gradual return to royal duties. The Princess is said to be focusing on regaining strength, prioritising her health, and spending time with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Her absence comes as Prince William prepares to take part in the Royal Ascot events, joining King Charles and Queen Camilla during the day’s proceedings. The Royal Ascot procession holds historical significance, celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, having first taken place in 1825 during the reign of George IV.

The Princess of Wales continues to receive an outpouring of public support, with many expressing admiration for her transparency and strength throughout her health journey.
