R. Kelly faces another threat in prison as lawyer claims conspiracy to harm

R. Kelly hospitalised after overdose in solitary confinement, lawyer claims prison staff conspiring to harm.

R. Kelly was rushed to Duke University Hospital after collapsing in his North Carolina prison cell due to what his attorney claims was a dangerous overdose of medication administered by prison staff.

The 58-year-old singer was reportedly placed in solitary confinement on June 10 and given additional medication two days later, which allegedly led to the overdose. According to his lawyer, Beau B. Brindley, Kelly experienced dizziness, fainting, and vision loss before being rushed to the hospital on June 13.

Doctors confirmed that Kelly received a life-threatening dose of medication, leading them to keep him under observation for two days. Brindley further argued that the overdose was not accidental, pointing out the timing of the incident occurring just days after Kelly’s legal team accused prison officials of plotting to harm him. “They gave him an amount of medicine that could have killed him,” Brindley said in a statement.

This latest development follows a previous filing by Kelly’s legal team, which claimed that prison staff and white supremacist groups were conspiring to kill the singer. Another inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, reportedly backed these claims, leading to Kelly’s placement in solitary confinement.

While in the hospital, doctors also discovered blood clots in both of Kelly’s legs and lungs, recommending immediate surgery. However, Kelly’s lawyer asserts that prison officials forcibly removed him from the hospital against medical advice, despite doctors' warnings, and returned him to solitary confinement.

Kelly, who is serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering, is seeking emergency release to home confinement, citing the alleged threats to his life in prison. His legal team argues that the conditions in solitary confinement and the medical treatment Kelly has received place his health in jeopardy.
