ChatGPT resumes operations after significant global outage

OpenAI's ChatGPT experienced service interruptions on June 10th due to a partial system failure

OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT, experienced significant disruptions on June 10, following a partial system failure that also affected its video tool, Sora, and its developer interface.

The service outages began early on Tuesday morning, with Downdetector, a platform tracking outages, noting a sharp spike in user complaints shortly after 5:30 a.m.

At the peak, nearly 2,000 reports were logged from users facing errors and access issues. OpenAI confirmed the issue and initiated an investigation.

By midday, the company reported signs of recovery for both ChatGPT and its API platform, although engineers warned that a full resolution could take several hours.

Performance varied throughout the day, with some users intermittently able to access the service.

In a post on social media platform X, OpenAI acknowledged the “elevated error rates and latency” and assured users that the root cause of the problem had been identified.

"We are working as fast as possible to restore normal operations," the company said.
