Lil Wayne reunites with Drake and Nicki Minaj on genre-bending Carter VI album

Lil Wayne’s long-anticipated Tha Carter VI has officially arrived, marking the return of one of hip-hop’s most celebrated series. Released at midnight on June 6, the 19-track album showcases Wayne’s lyrical agility and genre-bending ambition, reaffirming his position as a creative force.

Tha Carter VI reunites the iconic Young Money trio—Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne—for the first time in years, igniting nostalgia while pushing forward. But the album reaches far beyond familiar faces.Wayne brings together an eclectic lineup, featuring MGK, Miley Cyrus, Andrea Bocelli, Bono, Wyclef Jean, and even his teenage son Kameron Carter. The result is a genre-fluid blend of hip-hop, rock, opera, and pop.

Critics have praised the album’s dynamic range. Billboard's Michael Saponara highlighted standouts like the operatic “Maria” featuring Bocelli, the introspective “Bein Myself” with Mannie Fresh, and the powerful closer “Written History,” which samples a 1974 Muhammad Ali speech. Wayne’s lyrical introspection shines through, particularly on tracks where he reflects on fame, family, and survival.

To mark the release, Wayne headlined Madison Square Garden for the first time in his career, debuting cuts from the album and officially launching Tha Carter VI Tour. The North American run resumes in late June with support from Tyga, NoCap, and a long-awaited Hot Boys reunion.
