Mercury expected to touch 40°C in Karachi today

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 31°C early this morning

The maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to range between 39°C to 40°C on Sunday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting soaring temperatures across the region starting today.

The Met office said that winds are likely to blow from the west and southwest over the next 24 hours, with speeds ranging between 15 and 45 kilometres per hour.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 31°C early this morning, while maximum temperatures are expected to range between 37°C and 40°C, Met office said.

On the other hand, the PMD has forecast mainly hot and dry conditions across most regions of the country over the next twelve hours.

However, partly cloudy weather with chances of rain and thundershowers is expected at isolated locations in Kashmir and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Morning temperatures recorded in major cities were as follows: Islamabad 18°C, Lahore 24°C, Peshawar 23°C, Quetta 25°C, Gilgit 17°C, Murree 12°C, and Muzaffarabad 19°C.

Furthermore, at least 14 people were killed and over 92 were injured as violent storms swept across Punjab, Pakistan, on Saturday, disrupting daily life and prompting emergency responses.

Flights at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport were delayed, rerouted, or cancelled, while LESCO issued a red alert to address widespread power outages.

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the storm broke a prolonged heatwave, bringing rain, hail, and a significant temperature drop. A rain emergency was declared in Rawalpindi.
