Swift debuts 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)'

After a few years of waiting, Taylor Swift's anticipated re-recording, Reputation (Taylor's Version), might finally be seeing the light. On Monday, the lead single Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version) was featured in the opening scene of a new episode of The Handmaid's Tale, reported Variety.

While Swift has yet to make an official announcement, fans have been waiting for the re-release of the album since it was relieved of legal constrictions. The popstar received a notice of allowance for both Reputation (Taylor's Version) and the re-recording of her debut album in 2022, as per USA Today. The two albums will be her final ones to be re-recorded after the termination of her contract with Big Machine Records.

The possible release of Reputation (Taylor's Version) marks the longest gap between Swift's re-recorded albums, with her latest one being 1989 (Taylor's Version), which was released in October 2023.

The recent buzz around the album speculates that Swift might announce the release of Reputation (Taylor's Version) at the American Music Awards scheduled for this Monday. Since their favourite star is known for her easter eggs and fun clues, Swifties couldn't help but notice that her official merchandise site has reorganised to spell out 'AMAs' using the tabs for Apparel, Music, Accessories, and Sale.

While speaking to Time in 2023, Swift said of the original album, "It's a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure."

Her sixth album, Reputation, was first released in November 2017, serving as an explosive musical comeback after a storm of scandals and social media wipeout. Songs like Look What You Made Me Do and This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things allude to the old public feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, which led to Swift being labelled a "snake" online and temporarily quitting social media.

The singer adopted the motif for Reputation, flaunting snake rings and having snakes slither up to her throne in the music video for Look What You Made Me Do. The music video also features several of her "past selves" that Swift breaks free of in her unapologetic musical rebirth.

In 2019, the You Belong With Me singer had a fallout with her former label, Big Machine Records, and boss Scott Borchetta for selling her catalogue to SB Projects founder Scooter Braun. In August that year, she announced her plans to re-record all six of the albums she made under Big Machine Records to circumvent Braun's purchase.

Fast forward some years and four of Swift's re-recordings plus vaults of previously unreleased tracks are out for fans to relive the eras with a taste of something fresh.
