Iran’s foreign minister has warned that the United States would be considered a participant and held responsible if Israel launches an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, following reports that Israel may be preparing strikes.

The warning comes ahead of a fifth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the US scheduled for Friday in Rome, aimed at resolving disagreements over Iran’s uranium enrichment programme. Washington views Iran’s enrichment as a potential step towards developing nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran denies, insisting its nuclear activities are solely for civilian purposes.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned Israel’s “adventurism” and urged the international community to take measures to prevent Israeli threats. He stressed Iran would respond decisively to any attack and that the scale of its response would depend on actions taken by international bodies.

CNN reported US intelligence indicating Israel may be preparing strikes, though Israel has not officially confirmed these plans. Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have repeatedly threatened military action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned of a “devastating and decisive response” to any Israeli attack, highlighting strong military and popular support for Iran’s defence. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticised US demands to halt uranium enrichment as “excessive and outrageous.”

The diplomatic standoff underscores the fragile situation as the US and Iran seek a diplomatic resolution while tensions with Israel escalate. On Tuesday, Khamenei said US demands that Tehran stop enriching uranium are “excessive and outrageous”.
