Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has dismissed fresh allegations suggesting that Tory Lanez was wrongfully convicted in connection to the 2020 shooting incident.

The response comes after a press conference by nonprofit legal group Unite the People, who claimed to have uncovered new testimony supporting Lanez's innocence.

Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges. The charges stem from a July 2020 incident in which prosecutors said he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet while yelling, “Dance, b—h!” during an argument outside a Hollywood Hills party.

Unite the People’s legal consultant Walter Roberts stated this week that new evidence had surfaced. He cited a man named Bradley James, allegedly a former bodyguard for Kelsey Harris—Megan’s former friend and key witness—who reportedly claimed to have overheard Harris admit to firing the shots.

Despite the claim, Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney Alex Spiro issued a firm response. “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system,” Spiro said in a statement to XXL. “This is not a political matter — this is a case of a violent assault that was resolved in the court of law.”

Lanez continues to maintain his innocence and has petitioned California Governor Gavin Newsom for a pardon. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Lanez survived a stabbing in prison, suffering 14 wounds and a collapsed lung. He is reportedly recovering and posted a statement thanking God for his survival.

Megan Thee Stallion has not yet publicly commented on the new allegations.
