Justin Bieber reportedly owes over $8 million to former manager Scooter Braun following a financial audit conducted after the premature end of his 2022 Justice world tour.
The singer had originally alleged Braun was overpaid millions in commissions, but an audit by Braun’s company Hybe and an independent review by PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed the opposite.
According to the findings, Bieber had promised to repay Braun’s company $24 million to help cover a debt to promoter AEG, who had advanced $40 million for the tour. However, sources claim Bieber only made one payment and then ceased repayments.
Hybe’s internal audit initially concluded Bieber still owed Braun $1 million, which Braun waived. After challenges from Bieber’s team, Hybe brought in PricewaterhouseCoopers for a neutral assessment, which confirmed a total debt of $8.8 million.
Bieber’s representatives have not publicly disputed the independent audit but conducted their own financial review without sharing the outcome. The situation stems from the tour’s cancellation, initially delayed by the pandemic and then cut short in 2022 due to Bieber’s health issues, including Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
The Hollywood Reporter previously suggested that the tour’s collapse caused ongoing financial consequences for Bieber, who allegedly remained in debt to AEG. The singer’s business manager, Lou Taylor, had earlier suggested Braun was overpaid $26 million, a claim not supported by either of the completed audits.
As the story unfolds, more details may emerge about the contractual obligations and management history.
