SITE Association of Industry (SAI) President Ahmed Azeem Alvi has urged the government to prioritise economic development by actively engaging the business community in policymaking process as sustainable growth cannot be achieved without addressing the concerns of industrialists and traders.
In a statement, Alvi called for taking immediate measures to ease the tax burden on businesses and protect them from undue harassment by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials.
Stressing the need for more transparency and efficiency, he proposed the introduction of a one-window tax system. Under this model, the businesses will deposit fixed amounts directly into official bank accounts, thereby ensuring transparency and reducing corruption.
The SAI chief highlighted the prime minister's business background and expressed confidence that he understood the challenges entrepreneurs faced.
